What we do
We run a series of cultural events to reserve, promote and share our Swahili Diaspora heritage and promote racial harmony amongst the wider Hull and East Yorkshire population. Food and music are a must for us!
Our projects
Mizizi/Roots
Our National Lottery Heritage project, ‘Mizizi/Roots – Part,’ was a great success. The activities facilitated community cohesion by bringing together people from various African diaspora groups and indigenous local communities to explore, enjoy, and celebrate a unique and distinctive Swahili way of life. Furthermore, the initiative helped to correct some misconceptions about the Swahili-speaking communities. It also played a significant role in promoting inter-racial tolerance and harmony by uniting different ethnicities of people living in the Hull and East Yorkshire area. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors for their generous and continued support.

Hull’s International Festival
Hull Swahili Diaspora members had a great time participating in Hull's International Carnival (HIC). As part of the Carnival HSD had the opportunity to showcase their heritage through Kiswahili language, performances, traditional wear and food at the Intercultural festival on Wednesday 3rd of August. The participation was well received by other ethnic groups and locals alike. We look forward to sharing our heritage and culture in HIC 2023!
