Hull Swahili Diaspora (HSD) is a constituted organisation that was initiated in the spirit of Ubuntu, taking the African family as a model for a wider kinship system. Ubuntu addresses people interconnectedness, our common humanity, and our responsibility to each other.

Aims

Unity

To bring together people from the Swahili speaking background to create a platform for social integration in Hull and East Riding.

Connectivity

To use Swahili language as a tool to promote our ancestors vision for African unity.

Organisation

To organise events, share, and preserve our culture, celebrating identity and promoting racial harmony.

Communication

Intergenerational dialogue between first and second generation speakers of Swahili.

We run a series of cultural events to reserve, promote and share our Swahili Diaspora heritage and promote racial harmony amongst the wider Hull and East Yorkshire population. Food and music are a must for us!
